European Commission consults interested parties on block exemption regulation applicable to automotive sector

On Monday 27 May, the European Commission announced that it was seeking comments from interested parties on the block exemption regulation applicable to the automotive sector, as amended in April 2023 and due to expire on 31 May 2028, and on the corresponding supplementary guidelines, also as amended in April 2023.

These texts help companies in the automotive sector to assess the compatibility of their vertical agreements with Article 101 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union.

As part of an evaluation launched on 18 January, the European Commission wants to know whether the exemption regulation in question is still fit for purpose.

All interested parties can submit their views on the Commission’s dedicated portal. Comments will be accepted until 24 June.

A public consultation should follow this initiative. It is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2024.
