New directive on protection of environment through criminal law has come into force

21/05/24 (Agence Europe) – The revised directive on the protection of the environment through criminal law, the result of an interinstitutional agreement reached in November 2023 (see EUROPE B13294A4), came into force on Monday 20 May. It replaces a 2008 law and extends the list of environmental criminal offences from 9 to 20, including timber trafficking and the illegal recycling of polluting ship components.
