12/04/24 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 12 April, alongside the Economic and Financial Affairs Council meeting, the European Commission signed a partnership agreement with Bulgaria under which the Commission agrees to support the organisation of information and communication campaigns on the changeover to the euro in Bulgaria, once the convergence criteria have been met. The Commission will use this document as a basis for drawing up a grant agreement enabling campaigns to be co-financed. Bulgaria’s entry into the eurozone, originally scheduled for 2024, was postponed in 2023 by one year (see EUROPE 13125/28), mainly due to political tensions. The official target is still 2025 (see EUROPE 13372/10). However, Bulgaria does not yet meet all the convergence criteria, particularly the inflation criterion, and the political situation remains unstable. Some sources envisage a postponement of a few months. (EV)
