EU hopes to mobilise revenues generated by frozen Russian public assets starting in summer

On Wednesday 20 March, the European External Action Service and the European Commission forwarded a proposal to mobilise the revenues generated by the assets of Russia’s central bank that have been frozen in the European Union since the start of Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine. Rapid adoption of this proposal by the EU Council would allow the sums collected to be used from the summer onwards, mainly for military support to Ukraine (see EUROPE B13374A2).
