Spain referred to EU Court of Justice for illegal waste dumping

The European Commission has decided to refer Spain to the Court of Justice of the EU (CJEU), which, despite several reminders, persists in failing to comply with the requirements of the Waste Framework Directive (2008/98/EC), which prohibits the uncontrolled disposal of waste. 

At least 195 illegal landfills have not yet been closed, sealed or rehabilitated since 2008, causing major damage to the environment and endangering human health, according to the European Commission on Wednesday...
