EU and Amman reaffirm their desire to step up cooperation

The EU and Jordan reaffirmed, on Tuesday 6 February, the strength of their partnership and their desire to further increase their political, security, economic and trade cooperation at the 13th Association Committee meeting, according to a press release from the European External Action Service.

The meeting provided an opportunity to review the progress made in recent years and to examine future cooperation, challenges and projects. The EU and Jordan have agreed to deepen their cooperation in the field of economic development and in the private sector, and have identified other potential areas of cooperation to address common threats and challenges in the field of security.

The parties also discussed regional crises and global challenges, and agreed to continue working together to promote stability, peace and security in the Middle East. Highlighting the “disastrous” humanitarian situation in Gaza, the two parties called for the utmost restraint and the protection of civilians, and reiterated the need to ensure the “immediate, sustainable, and unconditional” provision of humanitarian and medical aid. The EU and Jordan have also affirmed their firm rejection of any form of individual or collective displacement, forced or otherwise, of Palestinians from any part of the occupied territory, including the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
