06/02/24 (Agence Europe) – The session of the Hungarian Parliament requested by the opposition to discuss Ukraine’s accession to Sweden was adjourned on Monday 5 February for lack of a quorum. As announced, the Fidesz party MPs did not stand, leaving only the 51 elected opposition members from the 199 seats in Parliament (see EUROPE 13342/19). In a press release published on Monday, Fidesz explained that the ratification of Sweden’s accession could take place during an ordinary parliamentary session , when these resume on 26 February, but warned that it was waiting for the Swedish Prime Minister, Ulf Kristersson, to visit Hungary first. Hungary is the last country in the Atlantic Alliance to have to ratify the accession of Sweden, which will become the 32nd ally. (CG)
