At the Presidium meeting on 30 January, the EU’s agricultural organisations and cooperatives (Copa-Cogeca) decided to appoint Patrick Pagani as Deputy Secretary General of Copa-Cogeca.
This decision follows the departure of Pekka Pesonen, who held the post of Secretary General of Copa-Cogeca for seventeen years. Mr Pesonen has been Permanent Secretary at the Finnish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry since 1 February.
The organisation’s current political coordinator, Patrick Pagani, an Italian, will be responsible for overseeing the operations of the Copa-Cogeca secretariat and ensuring the transition pending the appointment of the new secretary general. Before joining Europe’s leading farming organisation in 2021, he held various positions in the sugar industry in Italy and at European level.
The Presidents of Copa and Cogeca, Christiane Lambert and Lennart Nilsson, thanked Mr Pesonen “for his unwavering commitment and passionate defence of European farmers and their agricultural cooperatives” over the years. (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
