01/02/24 (Agence Europe) – The milestone of 140,000 tonnes of essential goods delivered to Ukraine through the Union Civil Protection Mechanism has been passed, according to the European Commission on Thursday 1 February. These urgent supplies - ambulances, fire engines, electricity generators, demining equipment, shelters, medicines, emergency vehicles, mobile hospitals (total estimated value €796 million) - were donated by 32 countries and transported via EU logistics platforms in Poland, Romania and Slovakia. The latest major delivery is 45,000 tonnes of road salt donated by the Netherlands and delivered over the last eight months. “Two years after the start of this atrocious war, the EU has remained true to its promise to stand by Ukraine for as long as necessary”, commented the European Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič.
