30/01/2024 (Agence Europe) – In its latest gas market report, published on Friday 26 January, the International Energy Agency (IEA) indicated that global gas demand is set to increase by 2.5%, or 100 billion cubic metres, as a result of colder temperatures compared with the mild winter of 2023, and a fall in natural gas prices following the record levels seen in 2022. However, when it comes to power generation, gas use is expected to increase only marginally, “as higher gas burn in the Asia Pacific region, North America and the Middle East is expected to be partly offset by the continued reductions in Europe”, says the IEA. With regard to liquefied natural gas (LNG), a limited increase in global production is likely to slow the growth in demand, particularly in Europe and the mature markets of Asia.
