European Commission makes first move on set-aside, while France calls for more measures for farmers

On Thursday 1 February, the European Commission plans to adopt, by written procedure, measures relating to a proposal for a temporary derogation from the rules on set-aside and the maintenance of non-productive elements on arable land, said a Commission spokesman on Tuesday 30 January, confirming information obtained by EUROPE (see EUROPE B13338A2).

This gesture in support of EU farmers’ demands comes as France maintains pressure for additional measures to be taken at European level.
