29/01/24 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission published, on Friday 26 January, a call for evidence to designate renewables acceleration areas as part of the revision of the recently adopted Renewable Energy Directive (see EUROPE 13296/32). The evidence gathered from citizens and stakeholders will contribute to the development of a guidance document for Member States on the designation of renewables acceleration areas for wind and solar energy projects. This document should be published by the Commission in 2024, as set out in its wind energy action plan (see EUROPE 13278/5). EU countries will have to designate renewables acceleration areas for one or more types of energy source by 21 February 2026.
