29/01/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 29 January, the European Commission announced that it had taken note of the decision by Amazon (USA), which offers an online marketplace, and iRobot (USA), a manufacturer of robot hoovers, to terminate the agreement under which Amazon intended to acquire sole control of iRobot. This decision follows the sending by the Commission of a statement of objections on 27 November 2023 (see EUROPE 13301/23), as part of an in-depth investigation which began on 6 July 2023. The Commission took the preliminary view that the proposed acquisition of iRobot was likely to restrict competition on the market for robot hoovers. The proposed merger could have led to less choice and higher prices for consumers. (EV)
