23/01/24 (Agence Europe) – The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, announced on Monday 22 January that European foreign ministers had agreed that Azerbaijan should resume peace and normalisation talks with Armenia. “The latest territorial claims by President [of Azerbaijan, Ilham] Aliyev are very concerning”, he emphasised at the end of the Foreign Affairs Council, while Mr Aliyev once again raised the issue of the Zangezur corridor at the beginning of January. “Any violation of Armenia’s territorial integrity will be unacceptable and will have severe consequences for our relations with Azerbaijan”, warned Mr Borrell. The High Representative also expressed European solidarity with France, two of whose diplomats were expelled from Azerbaijan at the end of December for activities “incompatible with their status”, according to Baku.
