European Parliament urges EU Council to strengthen legislation against hate speech and hate crime in Europe

At its plenary session in Strasbourg on Thursday 18 January, the European Parliament approved by 397 votes to 121, with 26 abstentions, a report urging the Council of the European Union to adopt a decision to include hate speech and hate crimes as criminal offences under Article 83(1) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU).
