03/01/24 (Agence Europe) – On 22 December, the European Commission announced the mobilisation of 500 additional power generators for Ukraine, as local capacity is insufficient to restore the infrastructure continually destroyed by Russia. Deployed from the rescEU reserve of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM) hosted by Poland, these generators (12.5 kVA for the small ones, 1000 kVA for the large ones) will be supplied to Ukrainian ministries. The aim is to ensure an adequate supply of electricity during the cold and dark months and to keep vital services such as hospitals, water treatment plants and heating stations running. Forty of these generators are for schools. The financial value of these generators is €16.5 million. In total, more than 5,500 electrical generators have so far been sent to Ukraine via the UCPM. (AN)
