‘Methane Finance Sprint’, European Union pledges €175 million to combat methane emissions

At the COP28 Super Pollutants Summit in Dubai on Saturday 2 December, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced EU funding of €175 million to combat methane emissions.

This contribution is part of the ‘Methane Finance Sprint’ launched last April by US President Joe Biden, which aims to reduce these emissions in the energy sector, in particular by building new satellites to monitor them. Ms Von der Leyen emphasised the importance of this approach in...
