08/11/23 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 7 November, the spokesman for the European External Action Service strongly condemned the use of force by Russian border guards against Georgian citizens, following the death of one citizen near the administrative border with South Ossetia and the detention of another. “Russia’s military presence in Georgia’s occupied breakaway regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia continues in violation of international law and commitments undertaken by Russia under the 12 August 2008 agreement, mediated by the European Union”, he said in a press release. The spokesman called on all parties involved to show restraint and take all necessary measures to prevent any escalation. He says the EU observer mission will continue to monitor the situation closely and will endeavour to ease tensions. (CG)
