20/10/23 (Agence Europe) – Contrary to what we wrote in EUROPE 13275/1, the Dutchman Jeroen Lenaers, EPP coordinator for the European Parliament Committee on Civil Liberties, is not his group’s shadow rapporteur on the 2018 ‘Returns’ directive. Instead, it is the Frenchwoman Nadine Morano. The latter, to whom we offer our apologies, confirmed on 20 October her group’s wish to support a directive that can respond to the issues of the moment, in particular the “terrorist and migratory context”, whereas the Dutch rapporteur Tineke Strik (Greens/EFA) “wants to turn it into a no-return directive, by making the current procedure even more complex”, according to her entourage. “The EPP and Nadine Morano will not give in on this.” (SP)
