03/10/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 2 October, the Steering Board of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) announced that it was extending Martin Kern’s term of office as EIT Director for a further four years. The EIT Director is a member of the EIT Management Team, which oversees the day-to-day work of the EIT in implementing its multi-annual strategy and annual work programme. Martin Kern is an economist. He previously worked for 15 years in various positions in the European Commission, particularly on enlargement policy, financial assistance and support for economic and social development programmes. The Chairman of the EIT Steering Board, Nektarios Tavernarakis, pointed out that, under the leadership of Martin Kern, the EIT had implemented a new strategy and launched several flagship initiatives contributing to the EU’s innovation priorities.
