03/10/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 2 October, the European Defence Agency (EDA) announced that seven EU Member States had placed orders with European industry as part of its accelerated common procurement system for 155 mm ammunition. The EDA’s fast-track procedure for 155 mm ammunition covers all shells and their components (fuses, projectiles, charges, primers) for four different modern firing platforms which are designed and produced in Europe - i.e. Caesar in France, Krab in Poland, Panzerhaubitze 2000 in Germany and Zuzana in Slovakia - and most widely used by the Ukrainian armed forces. Nine framework contracts with industry are currently in place. Others could materialise in the weeks and months to come, according to the EDA in its press release. Orders from the seven Member States are eligible for reimbursement from the ‘European Peace Facility’. (CG)
