22/09/2023 (Agence Europe) – Earthquakes, fires, cyclones, floods... In response to the growing number of large-scale disasters around the world, the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, speaking on Thursday 21 September at the United Nations in New York, called for the establishment of a global fund for disasters and reiterated the EU’s support for the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 (see EUROPE 13129/11). “As we see day after day, natural disasters are unfolding at a dizzying pace, bringing suffering and desolation. On every continent. And most recently in Libya. Now more than ever, an international disaster fund is necessary to ensure rapid and fair assistance and strengthen our collective resilience”, said Mr Michel. (AN)
