On Friday 22 September, the European Commission paid a further tranche of €1.5 billion to Ukraine as part of the €18 billion in macro-financial aid allocated by the European Union for 2023.
This assistance is being used to fund the immediate needs of a country in the grip of Russian military aggression: paying civil servants’ salaries and pensions, maintaining public services, rehousing displaced people and repairing critical infrastructure.
