19/09/2023 (Agence Europe) – The European Parliament’s Committee on Legal Affairs (JURI) examined the declaration of interest of the Commissioner-designate for Climate Action, Wopke Hoekstra, on Tuesday 19 September, and concluded that there was no conflict of interest. The MEPs from The Left chose not to take part in the procedure, deeming it pointless. Manon Aubry, who heads the group, expressed this position on the social network X (formerly Twitter), saying: “the meeting is in camera, the examination is being conducted without any investigative powers, and the outcome is known in advance”. Mr Hoekstra will now move on to the next stage of the procedure, a series of written questions which he must answer by the end of the month, followed by a hearing on 2 October before the Committee on Environment (see EUROPE 13250/37).
