15/09/23 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 15 September, the European Commission published an implementing regulation in which it announced that it would be monitoring imports of renewable ethanol (or bioethanol) retroactively for the last 3 years. Bioethanol imports have increased significantly between 2021 and 2023, according to provisional data from the Commission. This is why it is introducing a monitoring measure, as it already did in 2020. The announcement was welcomed by David Carpintero, Director General of ePURE, the European bioethanol association: “This Commission action is reassuring news for the sector as monthly monitoring will allow a close statistical picture of volumes of fuel ethanol imports and help the EU to act quickly to respond to a threat of serious injury for the EU industry, if needed”, he said.
