Paloma Aba Garrote, the new Director of the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA), gave her first speech since taking up her post on Friday 15 September.
Appointed to this post in July (see EUROPE 13226/27), Ms Garrote now manages a team of around 600 people based in Brussels. These experts are in charge of implementing the European Union’s financing programmes linked to the objectives of the ‘European Green Deal’, in particular, the 55% reduction in its emissions by 2030 and a totally carbon-neutral economy by 2050.
Under her leadership, the CINEA agency is dedicated to supporting thousands of projects aimed at a cleaner environment, safer infrastructure and promising research in the fields of green energy, transport and climate-friendly maritime and fisheries sectors.
Paloma Aba Garrote called for all stakeholders to work together, stressing that “we must jointly promote sustainable economic growth, leaving no one behind in this transition”.
She also encouraged the public to stay informed via the agency’s website. “I look forward to hearing your stories and seeing how, together, we can achieve a carbon-neutral European economy”, she concluded. (Original version in French by Nithya Paquiry)
