07/09/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 7 September, the spokesperson for the European External Action Service denounced the speech given by the President of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, to the 11th Fatah Revolutionary Council on 26 August, explaining that it contained “false and grossly misleading remarks about Jews and antisemitism”. Mr Abbas said that Adolf Hitler had ordered the extermination of the Jews because of their “social role” as creditors, and not because of any hostility towards Judaism. “Such historical distortions are inflammatory, deeply offensive, can only serve to exacerbate tensions in the region and serve no one’s interests”, said the spokesperson, adding that they play into the hands of opponents of a two-state solution. Furthermore, these comments trivialise the Holocaust, fuel antisemitism and are an insult to the victims of the Holocaust and their families, he added. (CG)
