Nine European countries help Romania to treat victims of an LPG station explosion

28/08/23 (Agence Europe)European solidarity is at work with the Romanian authorities, who activated the Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM) on Sunday 27 August, in the wake of the double explosion at a liquefied petroleum gas station in Crevedia (north of Bucharest) that killed two people and injured 56, including firefighters. The European Commission announced on Monday 28 August that nine countries (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Sweden and Norway) had immediately offered to take 18 seriously burned patients into their hospitals. The European Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič, said that, “12 patients transferred” via the UCPM “are receiving emergency care in Belgium, Italy, Austria, Germany and Norway”, expressing his solidarity with the victims and their families and thanking the countries that have offered their help.
