31/07/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 2 August, the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) will examine a binding decision on a draft resolution from the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) concerning TikTok. In fact, in September 2021, the DPC had opened an investigation to check the measures taken by the Chinese social network to deny access to minors aged 13 and its compliance in processing children’s data with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). However, the Irish draft resolution on the subject did not convince the other European authorities, leading to the activation of the dispute resolution mechanism - a mechanism that the European Commission wants to make more effective (see EUROPE 13215/2). The company is the subject of another DPC investigation, also begun in September 2021, but this time concerning the transfer of personal data from the EU to China (see EUROPE 13186/10). (HS)
