European Commission launches a new programme to better understand disinformation about war in Ukraine, elections and gender issues

The Commission launched, on Monday 31 July, a call for proposals for projects to decipher how disinformation stories about Russia’s war on Ukraine, the elections and the LGBTQ+ community emerge online and offline, and to help fight these stories and their effects.

This call builds on a similar project already underway, following a call for proposals published in July 2022.

Complementing the work of the European Digital Media Observatory (EDMO), the project, with a budget of almost €1.2 million, will propose strategies and measures, future policy actions and new practices to support positive narratives and counter false and damaging ones, including demystifying the expected disinformation narratives, the Commission said in its press release.

The deadline for applications is 22 September 2023, with the winning project due to start in September 2024.
