20/07/2023 (Agence Europe) – According to our information, Iliana Ivanova, nominated to replace former European Commissioner Mariya Gabriel (see EUROPE 13211/29), will be heard on 5 September by the European Parliament’s Committees on Culture (CULT) and Research and Industry (ITRE). However, the written questions addressed to the candidate still need to be approved. At the same time, on Wednesday 19 July, the Committee on Legal Affairs (JURI) “issued a decision” on the analysis of her potential conflicts of interest. Once the European Parliament hearings are over, Ms Ivanova’s candidacy as the next Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth will have to be approved by all the MEPs at a plenary session, potentially in September.
