17/07/23 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 17 July, the European Commission opened a four-week consultation period on the equivalence and compliance of Australia’s financial markets with the legally binding requirements that apply to regulated markets in the EU. Specifically, the Commission intends to amend its implementing decision on the equivalence of financial markets in Australia (2016/2272) after the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), the Australian market regulator, informed the Commission that a new financial market had been established in Australia and that the three others already on the list had been renamed. “In light of the information received from ASIC, that additional financial market complies with the legally binding requirements”, says the Commission, which also points out that a further “specific review at any time, where developments make it necessary”, remains possible.
