17/07/23 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 17 July, the European Commission and the European Disability Forum opened the call for entries for the 2024 Access City Award. This prize is awarded to European cities with more than 50,000 inhabitants that have made significant efforts to become accessible for people with disabilities. This year, a special ‘New European Bauhaus’ award (see EUROPE 13101/19) will also be presented to a city of which the accessibility efforts are consistent with the values of sustainability, aesthetics and inclusiveness. The winners in the top three spots will receive €150,000, €120,000 and €80,000 respectively. They will be announced at a ceremony to mark the European Day of Persons with Disabilities on 30 November and 1 December 2023. The deadline for applications is 18 September.
