04/07/23 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 4 July, the European Patent Office (EPO) announced the winners of its European Inventor Awards at a ceremony in Valencia (Spain). This prize rewards inventors for inventions with high added value for society: inventions that make an exceptional contribution to improving peoples’ everyday lives. The Prize is organised into seven categories and prizes (see EUROPE 13178/29). The winners come from China, Finland, France, Ireland and Spain. Among the winners, chemist Avelino Corma Canós (Spain) received a Lifetime Achievement Award for his pioneering work in the field of synthetic catalysts. Richard Turere (Kenya) won first place in the Young Inventors Prize for his system that uses light sequences to deter lions and other predators from approaching livestock.
