04/07/2023 (Agence Europe) – The Allies have decided to extend Jens Stoltenberg’s term of office as NATO Secretary General by another year, the Alliance announced on Tuesday 4 July. Mr Stoltenberg’s term of office will be extended until 1 October 2024. The Heads of State or Government will ratify the decision at the Vilnius Summit on 11 and 12 July. “The Allies thanked the Secretary General for his leadership and commitment, which have been essential in preserving transatlantic unity in the face of unprecedented security challenges”, the Alliance statement said. For his part, Mr Stoltenberg said he was “honoured” by the Allies’ decision. Mr Stoltenberg’s mandate, in place since 1 October 2014, had already been extended by one year in March 2022, until 30 September 2023. (CG)
