European Public Prosecutor’s Office and National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine step up cooperation

On Monday 3 July in Luxembourg, the European Chief Prosecutor of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO), Laura Kövesi, and the Director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU), Semen Kryvonos, signed a working agreement aimed at strengthening cooperation between their respective institutions in the investigation of corruption cases.

According to Article 2 of the arrangement, cooperation between the parties shall cover areas of crime falling within EPPO’s material competence, including criminal offences affecting the European Union’s financial interests.

This document, the second of its kind with the Ukrainian authorities following the signing of a working agreement with the Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office on 18 March 2022, demonstrates the commitment of both parties to protect EU funds allocated to Ukraine, particularly in the context of war and reconstruction.

EPPO believes that this alliance with the Ukrainian authorities specialising in investigating corruption is essential in the fight against organised crime groups and preventing the misappropriation of funds. The agreement will facilitate the exchange of information and strengthen the coordination of ongoing investigations.
