20/06/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 20 June, the European Commission announced that it had approved a €7 million aid scheme in Cyprus to support sheep and goat farmers. The aid scheme was notified in the context of Russia's military aggression against Ukraine. The aid will reach eligible businesses in the form of direct grants limited to €250,000 per beneficiary until 31 December 2023 at the latest. The Commission took the view that the Cypriot aid scheme complies with European rules on State aid and, more specifically, with the temporary framework on State aid in crisis and transition situations (see EUROPE 13138/1) and Article 107(3)(b) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, which stipulates that aid to remedy a serious disturbance in the economy of a Member State may be considered compatible with the internal market.
