20/06/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday, 20 June, European Commission Executive Vice-President Margrethe Vestager confirmed her “availability” to stand as a candidate for the presidency of the European Investment Bank (EIB), replacing Germany’s Werner Hoyer, whose second six-year term runs until the end of 2023. “I am pleased that the Danish government [has] put forward my name”, she indicated in a statement to the press. Former finance minister in the ‘Draghi’ government, Daniele Franco of Italy is reportedly a candidate as well. Spain, which wishes to present a candidate, has been given the option of putting forward a name after the general election on 23 July. The ‘Ecofin’ Council is expected to take a decision on Mr Hoyer’s replacement in September. (MB)
