05/05/2023 (Agence Europe) – The dismissal of Ombudswoman Atyr Abdrakhmatova in Kyrgyzstan is “a negative development”, according to the EU. In April, the EU published a report denouncing increasing human rights violations by the State. The European External Action Service (EEAS) spokesperson Peter Stano said in a statement on Friday 5 May, that the EU encourages the Kyrgyz authorities to comply with their obligations, as the country is a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council. “The decision of the early dismissal of Ms Abdrakhmatova is seen in a context of a number of earlier negative developments related to human rights in Kyrgyzstan”, according to Mr Stano.
