05/05/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 5 May, the European Commission gave the green light to Portuguese aid measures worth around €137 million to support agricultural producers affected by the consequences of the Russian military aggression against Ukraine. Portugal will be able to provide direct subsidies of up to €250 000 per beneficiary to certain producers in the horticultural, meat and livestock sectors. This aid will in particular help producers to cope with the increase in the prices of energy and certain agricultural inputs. The subsidies will be granted by 31 December 2023 at the latest. The European Commission concluded that the Portuguese support measures were compatible with Article 107(3)(b) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union and with the Temporary Crisis and Transition Framework for State Aid adopted by the European Commission on 9 March (see EUROPE 13138/1).
