06/04/2023 (Agence Europe) – Following the visit to Brussels of Kenyan President William Ruto (see EUROPE 13152/13), six Development Committee MEPs returning from a trip to Kenya (3-5 April) said on Thursday 6 April that the EU and the African country must forge “a true partnership” and that “European investment remains vital”. They met with parliamentarians, ministers, businesses and NGOs and visited an EU and EIB-funded mango factory - a Global Gateway project, which provides jobs and income for local farmers. Referring to the severe droughts in Kenya, Pierrette Herzberger-Fofana (Greens/EFA, German), who led the delegation, stressed that “despite enormous challenges, Kenya is a young and innovative country, a world leader when it comes to the use of renewable energy - solar, hydro, wind and geothermal - and it is a highly digitised society, particularly in urban areas”.
