03/03/2023 (Agence Europe) – The European Union will deploy an Election Observation Mission (EOM) to Paraguay for the presidential, legislative and regional elections on 30 April. Led by MEP Gabriel Mato (EPP, Spanish), this European mission will be composed of eleven long-term experts who will be in Asunción from mid-March. They will be joined by 40 short-term observers, who will be deployed in the country to observe the elections, in co-operation with observers from EU Member States as well as Canada, Norway and Switzerland. “We intend to contribute again to a credible, transparent and inclusive electoral process”, Mr Mato said in a statement. The EU has already observed elections in 2013 and 2018 in Paraguay. At the end of the electoral process, the Head of Mission will present recommendations to stakeholders to further improve Paraguayan democratic standards. (MB)
