03/03/2023 (Agence Europe) – In a joint statement, Eurelectric, Solar Power Europe and Wind Europe call on the European legislator to significantly accelerate the adoption of a licensing framework for renewables during the upcoming inter-institutional trilogue negotiations on the Renewable Energy Directive on Monday 6 March. The organisations invite the following aspects to be considered in the realisation of this licensing framework: - apply public interest protection to all renewable energy technologies; - unblock existing procedures, i.e. declare existing renewable energy zones as ‘acceleration areas’; - identify these specific areas according to precise and transparent criteria, which should in no way prevent the deployment of renewable energy in other areas; - revise the strict ‘land use’ designation that can hinder the deployment of renewable energy and, finally, ensure a rapid approval time.
