24/02/2023 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission accepted, on Friday 24 February, the lifting of the commitments on the Paris-Amsterdam route made by Air France when it acquired KLM. The Commission had authorised the transaction in February 2004 subject to open-ended conditions, according to the proposed commitments. As regards the Paris-Amsterdam route, the Commission’s authorisation was conditional on Air France giving up slots to make available to competitors up to six frequencies per day at Paris and Amsterdam airports, as well as other concessions. The Commission’s investigation revealed that the competition concerns on the Paris-Amsterdam route identified in the authorisation decision had ceased to exist due to the competitive pressure exerted by Thalys.
