EU takes note of ICJ decision ordering Azerbaijan to lift blockade of Lachin corridor

24/02/2023 (Agence Europe)The European Union has taken note of the binding order of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) that Azerbaijan should take all measures at its disposal to ensure unimpeded movement along the Lachin corridor in both directions, the European External Action Service spokesperson announced on Thursday 23 February. The spokesperson reiterated the EU’s call on those responsible to ensure free and safe movement along the corridor. “The EU remains concerned about the obstructions that continue to be in place in the Lachin corridor and the resulting humanitarian implications for the local civilian population”, the spokesperson added, stressing the “vital need” to ensure the uninterrupted supply of gas and electricity to the affected population. According to the spokesperson, all of Azerbaijan’s concerns regarding the use of the corridor can and should be addressed exclusively through dialogue. (CG)
