EU sanctions nine additional Burmese individuals and seven entities

The EU has decided to extend sanctions against Myanmar, 2 years after the coup d’état of 1 February 2021. It added nine individuals and seven entities to its sanctions list. The measures involve a freeze on their assets in the EU and an entry ban for individuals.

These include the Burmese Minister of Energy, businessmen who supplied the regime with arms and dual-use goods, cadres of the armed forces and Yangon Region politicians and administrators involved in the execution of four democracy activists in July 2022 (see EUROPE 13000/14)

As for the entities, the EU sanctioned the Ministry of Defence, a state-owned company linked to it, and private companies delivering fuel, weapons and funds to the military.

This new round of sanctions brings the number of individuals affected by EU restrictive measures in Myanmar to 93 and the number of entities to 18. See the implementing regulation: https://aeur.eu/f/5eo (Original version in French by Léa Marchal)
