20/02/23 (Agence Europe) – The European Committee of the Regions (CoR) has appointed Vasco Alves Cordeiro (PES, Portuguese), President of the institution, and Emil Boc (EPP, Romanian) as co-rapporteurs to deliver an opinion on the future of cohesion policy post-2027. For the CoR, this is a political signal to reiterate its commitment to this debate, but also to develop a common position of cities and regions on how to shape the future of the EU’s main investment policy. “Yes, this policy needs an ‘aggiornamento’ [‘update’ - editor’s note] for the post-2027 period, but we also know that its pillars are solid and need to be reinforced further”, said Alves Cordeiro, stressing the long-term objectives of cohesion. The opinion should be finalised and adopted by the end of 2023, before the publication of the 9th Cohesion Report by the European Commission. (HS)
