The European Commission decided on Wednesday 15 February to refer Belgium to the EU Court of Justice for persistent infringement of the Nitrates Directive (91/676), which aims to prevent and reduce water pollution by nitrates from agricultural sources by requiring Member States to monitor their waters, identify polluted waters and put action programmes in place.
