Waste pollution, Croatia and Slovenia face financial penalties for failing to comply with EU Court of Justice judgments

Croatia and Slovenia are being referred to the EU Court of Justice for a second time, each for failing to comply with a Court judgment on waste pollution, and face heavy fines for failing to meet the requirements of the Waste Framework Directive (Directive 2008/98/EU), the European Commission announced on Wednesday 15 February.

Croatia has failed to comply with a judgment of 2 May 2019 that condemned it for the illegal Biljane Donje landfill, where some 140,000 tonnes of production...
