13/02/2023 (Agence Europe) – As a follow-up to the Conference on the Future of Europe, the citizens’ panel consulted on how to step up action to reduce food waste in the EU by 2030 (see EUROPE 13076/27) made 23 recommendations, which were published on Monday 13 February by the European Commission. The panel consists of 150 citizens who were “chosen at random”, according to the Commission. The recommendations concern strengthening cooperation in the food value chain, encouraging relevant initiatives in industry and supporting consumer behaviour change, including awareness-raising campaigns for adults and children in schools. They are the result of three weekends of deliberations. In the 2nd quarter, the Commission intends to propose the revision of the Waste Framework Directive to impose binding targets (see EUROPE 13067/18, 12960/13).
